The automobile company aimed to enhance customer experience by providing car owners with a mobile app offering live telemetry data and remote control functionalities. The solution needed to connect the car's telematics control unit (TCU) to a global backend, allowing data transmission every 30 seconds. This telemetry would provide real-time analytics to car owners, while the mobile app enabled remote commands such as locking, unlocking, and other car control features. The solution also required a wake-up functionality to support specific use cases and ensure reliable performance at scale.
Kaara developed the connected car solution using Microsoft Azure as the hosting platform. The MQTT 3.1 specification was adopted for device communication, ensuring secure and efficient data transfer. Key Azure services, including IoT Hub, Event Hub, Service Fabric, Cosmos DB, and Azure SQL, were leveraged to manage data flow, storage, and analytics. To validate performance, Kaara conducted extensive testing with a simulation of 1 million devices connected simultaneously, ensuring the system’s ability to scale globally and handle high data volumes.
The automobile company not only improved customer experience by enabling real-time car telemetry and remote control through the app but also gained a competitive edge in the market. The telemetry data collected from the cars also contributed valuable insights for the company's research and development initiatives, enabling continuous improvement of their vehicles and services. The scalable solution allowed the company to meet global demands efficiently.
